Stuff

This area of my site has odds and ends that did not fit anywhere else:

internet Website Links

Some quality services useful if you are building your own website:

  • AwardSpace.com (free website hosting): I searched around for the best free website, and after trying at least 4 others (Yahoo! GeoCities, Gigacities, FreeHostia, and AtSpace), this worked quite well for me until I needed faster performance.
  • SimpleHelix.com (fast website hosting): This hosting service gives you a lot for your money ... especially for the best performance around. Note: This site is currently hosted by this service.
  • Google Custom Search (search box for your website): If the content on your site does not change too often, Google provides free site search functionality that is easy to implement. After requesting for your pages to be indexed in the Google search engine, you can create a custom search engine for your site within your Google account.
  • RapidSearch Pro (search engine for your website): This excellent RapidWeaver plug-in provides a fully functional search engine for your site. While this site started with the Google Custom Search engine, I quickly realized that the Google results were not clean and up-to-date despite their manual on-demand indexing feature and my auto-pinging Google when the site changed. I researched most of the site search options out there, and was not too impressed with the services offered. Then, after using the more technical Sphider search engine scripts for some time on this site, I implemented the RapidSearch Pro engine within minutes and got even better functionality!
  • Google Analytics (powerful tracking for your website): I recommend registering a free account with Google and taking advantage of their many free site tools including Google Analytics. Follow the instructions to insert the Google code into each of your webpages, and you will be amazed about all the visitor statistics (e.g., hits, countries, browsers, operating systems, popular conten, etc.) that it can provide you.

icon Image Links

Some quality image search services:

  • IconsPedia (icons): This site has an awesome selection of quality icons that can be downloaded as .png (multiple sizes) or .ico formats. Many of the icons you see here come from this site.
  • VeryIcon (icons): This site has a large searchable set of quality icons.
  • Google Images (images): This site has a huge selection and a good filtering mechanism to find what you want.
  • Yahoo! Images (images): If I can not find what I want on Google Images, then I try here for a different selection.
  • InterfaceLIFT (backgrounds): This site has a collection of very nice high-definition backgrounds (a.k.a., wallpapers) that can be downloaded in different resolutions. The pictures include great real landscapes as well as cool computer-generated imagery.
  • Cool Text (graphics generator): This cool free site service renders your text into a wide variety of cool styles.

icon AppleScript Scripts

If you have a Mac, these scripts may be of use to you.

  • Bondi Handlers: general routines to supplement the core AppleScript commands. Also, this is required by all of the other AppleScript scripts here.
  • Videos List Handlers: routines to process my specific videos list spreadsheet, and output corresponding site pages. This can be generally useful for learning AppleScript to interact with Excel among other things. This is used by my Site - Process Changes script.
  • Site - Process Changes: the script used to create/manage all external files/content required by this site. This can be useful for RapidWeaver users that want to manage their content in a more automated way.

icon Cool Purchases

In the last couple of years, I bought some really cool things that I thoroughly enjoy:

Nissan

Nissan Altima Coupe 2008

Sporty look, powerful ride, and lots of luxury features for a lot less than the elite brands.

Pioneer

Pioneer Elite KURO PRO-151FD 60" Plasma TV

The best home theater picture I have ever seen with true black.

iMac

iMac 2008

While I always liked Windows and PC's, the iMac feels so much more reliable, smoother, and enjoyable.

iPhone

iPhone 4

I admit that it definitely has its flaws, but its apps, power, style, and user interface are hard to beat!

iPad

iPad Wi-Fi + 3G 64GB

Originally, I bought this cool device mostly for viewing my short videos on the go, since it has a relatively large display that is light and easily portable, good video processing power, and a good battery life. However, it ended up being much more than I ever expected as a convenient TV companion, home browser, gaming device, touch-screen creative tool, etc.

iPod

iPod Classic 160GB

A solid workhorse with a great battery life that easily holds my whole music collection at the highest MP3/AAC quality.

Bose

Bose Companion 5 Speakers

Incredible sound for desktop speakers that project 3-D sound cleanly filling the room.

Magic Mouse

Magic Mouse

The nicest mouse I have ever used, unfortunately requiring monthly battery replacement.
